The Iowa Association of Black Journalists has elected its leadership team for 2023-24.

I am honored to take over the title of president of the lowa Association of Black Journalists from Tisia Muzinga who is the reason IABJ even exists.

Three members of the lABJBoard met with representatives of the Ankeny School District including Superintendent Dr. Erick Pruitt on Wednesday in response to last week's unfortunate situation with KCCI Reporter Lauren Johnson.

It takes so much strength and courage to do what Lauren Johnson did. Ms. Johnson, a Black female journalist, publicly shared her recent experience with the Ankeny School District. As you all know, she was assigned by her employer to cover a school board meeting about the district's decision to remove a posting for a position that addresses diversity, equity, and inclusivity.

The Ankeny School District's decision to try and restrict KCCI Reporter Lauren Johnson, a Black female journalist, from covering a school board meeting is reprehensible, anti-democratic, and impedes the rights of a free press.
